A young troll sat curled in the corner of the hut, his long blue hair hiding a face full of tears. He couldn't have been more than ten, and already his back was marred by a multitude of angry scars. It looked like a few more would be forming soon, if the deep, red cuts were any indication. They weren't bleeding anymore, thank goodness, but dried blood coated the bluish green skin beneath them.
A few yards away a large, older troll woman sat, grinding herbs together in a bowl. Though he recognized the contents as the beginnings of a healing potion, he highly doubted it was for him. More than likely, it would go to the large troll boy next to her, nursing a bite on his hand that barely pierced his flesh.
"I told you," the woman grunted in Zandali, "That if you were going to be rough with him, to shut up him up! I didn't tell you to stick your damned hand in his mouth!"
"Sorry, Momma," the boy mumbled, brushing a few strands of pink hair from his face with his uninjured hand. "I didn't think he would bite me."
"No? Is that your excuse?" the woman hissed, slamming her grinding stone into the bowl a bit harder than necessary. "You didn't think he would bite you? You didn't think he'd bite when you're whipping your axe across his back?" She snorted and spit into the bowl. "That's always your problem, Baqir. You just don't think. It's surprising you've made it this far, you stupid boy."
The pink-haired boy merely nodded and shot a glare over his shoulder at the smaller boy huddled in the corner. This was all his fault, as usual. If he hadn't bitten, he wouldn't be sitting here, getting lectured. Again.
The boy in the corner just whimpered and curled deeper into himself, His back hurt terribly, but not as much as his chest. There was no damage there, none that you could see, but his heart ached. He yearned to be lectured like that; yearned for his mother's anger. Anything would've been better than being left alone in the corner, hurts left open and ignored; the unwanted child.
Swallowing back another bout of tears, he reached a hand back and touched a cut, wincing as pain shot up his spine. At that moment, he didn't mind if his cuts weren't treated. All he wanted was to be wanted.
